2021 Toyota RAV4 vs. 2021 Nissan Rogue

Overview

The auto world offers many choices for SUVs in every size, from extra small to third-row models. If you're in the market for a small SUV, you may be considering either the RAV4 or the Rogue as options. Both of these fit the bill, but which one is better when comparing the 2021 Toyota RAV4 versus the 2021 Nissan Rogue?

Trim Levels

You can get the 2021 Toyota RAV4 in six trim models: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure, and TRD Off-Road. Depending on trim, features include an 8-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, panoramic sunroof, power liftgate, heated and ventilated front seats, a navigation system, and wireless charging pad. The RAV4 is one of the best-selling vehicles on the market today, thanks to its spacious interior, smooth ride, and advanced driver safety features.

The 2021 Nissan Rogue is available in four trims: S, SV, SL, and Platinum. You get an 8-inch or 9-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, a power liftgate, heated front seats, and a Wi-Fi hot spot, depending on which trim you select. While the Rogue is Nissan's top-selling vehicle, it doesn't outsell the RAV4.

Power and Performance

The Toyota RAV4 is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This combination produces 203 horsepower to get you where you need to go with plenty of power. Front-wheel drive is standard on all trims except the Adventure and TRD Off-road, which have all-wheel drive standards. All-wheel drive is available on the other trims to keep you in control over various road conditions.

With the Rogue, you get a little less power from its 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a continuously variable automatic transmission. You get 181 horsepower from this engine. Front-wheel drive is standard on all trims, with all-wheel drive available as well.

Safety Features

You get the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 on all trims of the RAV4, featuring forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, a lane-keeping system, automatic high beams, and a traffic sign reader. Along with an advanced airbag system, these features help keep you and your passengers safe on the road.

Nissan offers the Nissan Safety Shield with forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear-passenger safe exit system, and automatic rear braking. If you move up in trim levels, you can add lane departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree camera system.

Head to head, the interior features, more powerful engine, and the plethora of standard safety features on the RAV4 put it over the top.
