If you have a tire pressure gauge, it's pretty simple.

  • Step 1: Take the cap off the valve on your tire.
  • Step 2: Make sure that your gauge is pushed all the way in.
  • Step 3: Put it on the valve, and voila! You get your reading.

However far the gauge came out is what your tire pressure is—easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Not to worry at DARCARS Toyota of Silver Spring, we have your back.

If you don't have a gauge, you can try feeling the tires with your hands. For this method, all you need is the heel of your hand. Push the tire with force, and the rule here is if it feels like you're hitting a rock, then you're all good; there's plenty of air. Now, if it feels like it has some give, then there is low pressure, and it's time to add some air.

Wait! How do you know how much air? What is the PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) for your particular Toyota? It will state PSI on your tire, but that is the maximum capacity, which may not be optimal. If you add too much air pressure, that can distort the tire's shape and lead to decreased traction, which will bump up wear and tear down the center of the tire, and nobody wants that. So, to find the optimum PSI for your car, just check the sticker inside the driver's door, or you can always refer to the Owner's Manual.

Engine oil is crucial to keep your eyes on, so we recommend checking it at least once a month. However, if you want to be on top of your game because you love your Toyota and want to take good care of it, checking your engine's oil biweekly is best. Let's dive in on how to check it; just make sure the car is warm and on level ground.

  • Step 1: Stop the engine and wait a few minutes for the oil to settle.
  • Step 2: Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean.
  • Step 3: Push it in all the way, wait for a second and withdraw to check the level.

The oil should be between the two lines on the dipstick. If you check and it's not there, then it's time to schedule an oil change with us so that we can keep your car's health and value in good shape.

What happens during tire rotation service? Each tire and wheel is removed from your vehicle and moved to a different position. Why? You may ask. Seems unnecessary? Well, tire rotation is actually vital to ensure that all tires wear evenly and therefore last longer. Remember, at DARCARS Toyota of Silver Spring, we care for your car. That is why we recommend having this done every six months or 6,000 miles.

Has it been more than six months since your last tire rotation? Please schedule an appointment with our Service Center today so we can keep you safer on the road.
