2022 Toyota Camry vs. Hyundai Sonata

2022 Toyota Camry vs. 2022 Hyundai Sonata

Overview

For many buyers, a sedan is an appealing option that delivers efficiency, style, and comfort. Two options that might pop up in your search for a midsize sedan include the Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata. Take a look at how these two models differ as you decide which is a good fit for your lifestyle.

Innovative Driver Aids

The 2022 Toyota Camry is one of the most well-equipped options on the safety front, thanks to the standard inclusion of Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+. This suite bundles forward-collision mitigation, road sign recognition, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams. Although the 2022 Hyundai Sonata includes some of these, automatic high beams and road sign recognition aren't included in the standard bundle. Additional options offered on both include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, and a surround-view camera system.

Power and Performance

If power is one of your top considerations, you'll probably lean toward the 2022 Camry, which comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that pumps out 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. By contrast, the standard unit in the Sonata only makes 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. Both work with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels, but the Camry is available with all-wheel drive as an upgrade. The Camry is also available with an upgraded version of the 2.5-liter engine that produces 206 horsepower, or a 3.5-liter V-6 unit rated at 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. The Elantra's top-rated engine makes 290 horsepower, so it can't quite keep up.

Sporty Interior Options

You can get a sporty version of the Camry with upscale interior features, including leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, metallic interior trim, and red seat belts. From the outside, the top TRD trim also shows off a unique set of 19-inch wheels, blacked-out trim and mirrors, aerodynamic accents, and a sport exhaust. The Elantra's top trim has some unique features, including 19-inch wheels and a sport-tuned suspension, but the exterior styling simply doesn't compare with the sporty appearance of the top Camry. It's easy to see why buyers have loved the Toyota Camry for decades and it continues to lead its segment. When you're shopping for a budget-friendly new model, this sedan is certainly worth your consideration.
