Power Beneath the Hood
While the Model 3 is an all-electric model, the Prius Prime is a plug-in hybrid, so their powertrains differ. The Tesla comes with a lithium-ion battery and a single-speed transmission, while Toyota's offering has a hybrid powertrain with an electric motor. It can drive up to 25 miles on all-electric power, while its full hybrid driving range is 640 miles. By contrast, the Model 3 can drive up to 230 miles before it needs to be charged again.
Safety Features
No matter which eco-friendly model you choose, it will come with impressive safety equipment. The Prius Prime includes Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 as standard, which bundles high-end active driver aids. The suite includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure mitigation with an advanced lane-keeping system, and forward-collision mitigation. Tesla Autopilot comes standard on all three trims, which bundles similar advanced driver aids.
