Both have a strong following among their loyal fans, and each boasts an impressive list of features and capabilities. Exterior Styling
Toyota fully redesigned the Tundra for the 2022 model year, adding bold and aggressive styling elements that help it stand out in the pack. Ford redesigned the F-150 last year, but this year's model looks similar to some of the other trucks in the segment. Standard features on the 2022 Tundra include 18-inch steel wheels, a sheet-molded compound (SMC) composite bed, and LED headlights. With the higher trims, you can also get options like alloy wheels, LED fog lights, upgraded front lighting, and power-deploying running boards. The TRD Pro is the most off-road-ready of the bunch, adding skid plates, a 1.1-inch front suspension lift, all-terrain tires, Fox suspension dampers, and a rear locking differential. By contrast, the base 2022 Ford F-150 is a bit more sparsely equipped, featuring smaller steel wheels and manual windows and side mirrors. Upgraded features are only available as you move through the higher trims.
Power and Capabilities
If a long list of engine options is confusing and overwhelming, you'll appreciate the simplicity of the Tundra's power lineup. Most trims come with a capable 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6 engine that produces 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. A hybrid version is available for fuel-conscious buyers, which includes the same engine paired to an electric motor. It puts out a combined 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. Ford doesn't currently offer a hybrid version of the F-150. It will release an electric model, known as the F-150 Lightning, but it will require a charge when the battery runs out. Having the flexibility of a hybrid system isn't an option if you choose the Ford truck.
Safety Features
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 comes standard on all Tundra models, bundling a rearview camera, a lane-keeping system, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning with automatic emergency braking. The Ford safety suite isn't quite as robust, offering forward-collision mitigation and lane-departure warning.
